Facilities

Wardman Art Center, home to the Department of Art & Art History, offers a number of studio spaces for student artists to hone their craft, including a Digital Arts Lab, a ceramics studio, printmaking facilities and presses, the Drawing & Painting Studio, and a lobby gallery for student work. The building, which was at one-time Wardman Gymnasium and the center of the Poet athletics program, still retains the original basketball nets, bleachers, and scoreboard from decades ago —a truly unique, nostalgic, and creative setting for Whittier's eclectic art community.

DIGITAL ARTS LAB

The Digital Arts Lab is located on the first floor, north wing of Wardman Building. The lab, which is open daily for students, is equipped with 15 Power Mac G4 400/256 MB/20GB/Zip towers, flatbed and slide/film scanners, Epson color and HP laser printers. All workstations have Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, Director, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and QuarkXPress, as well as Microsoft Office and Internet access. Lab hours are 11a.m. -11p.m. daily, and Saturdays, 2-7p.m.

DRAWING & PAINTING STUDIO

Located on the second floor of Wardman Building, this studio features easels, tables, and other equipment for use in the development of drawing and painting techniques and skills. The studio's wall of windows offer plenty of access to natural light, while the open floorplan enables majors to stake out individual workspaces. In addition, studio walls are kept white for display of student work.

PRINTMAKING STUDIO

The printmaking studio is located on the first floor of Wardman Building, on the southern wing. Currently, both Takach and Vandercook presses are available for student use.

CERAMICS STUDIO

Located on the first floor of Wardman Building, behind the lobby gallery, the ceramics studio features broad workspace tables, ceramics and woodcutting tools, a firing kiln, and large classroom space.
