Student Employment at CAS
Whittier College students who would like to earn money helping their peers should consider applying at CAS. We offer great leadership roles, a friendly studying environment, and the best pay on campus. There are four types of student positions available. We generally hire Student Managers in the beginning of fall semester but begin to recruit Tutors, Supplemental Instruction Leaders, and Academic Coaches mid-spring semester. Students may inquire about a position any time of the year.

Job Description |

| Greet and assist students as they check in and out of the Center using a software tracking system. Oversee the daily operations of CAS during lunch and evening hours. Provide leadership and accountability for Tutors/SILs. Maintain records of student usage. Develop advertising, publications, and outreach events. Attend staff meetings. Assist professional staff with other projects and tasks as assigned. | ||

Job Description |

| Assist students with comprehension of coursework within their academic discipline through one-on-one tutoring. Attend mandatory tutor training and staff meetings. Visit relevant classes during the first week of school to advertise tutoring services. Research and present one Life Skills Workshop with a team of other Tutors/SILs. Participate in CAS events and promote CAS services. All tutoring will take place in CAS only by appointment or on a walk-in basis. | ||

| A B+ or higher in the course for which SI is being provided and recommendation from the course instructor. Strong desire to assist peers and ability to effectively convey information in a small group setting. Minimum 3.25 GPA. Junior or senior standing preferred. Late afternoon and/or evening availability required. | ||

| Provide at least 3 hours of SI each week for specified course and be available for 1-2 hours of individual tutoring. Attend mandatory tutor training and staff meetings. Attend the specified course at least once per week and/or meet with course instructor as needed. Research and present one Life Skills Workshop with a team of other Tutors/SILs. Participate in CAS events and promote CAS services. All SI will take place in CAS or in nearby classrooms on a walk-in basis only, but students may make appointments if they need individual attention. | ||

| Meet once or twice a week with students experiencing academic difficulty to hold them accountable in their studies. Review class syllabi, develop a learning plan, discuss assignments and tests, address various study skills, recommend appropriate campus resources, and provide specialized tutoring as needed. | ||
