The Major in Environmental Science

Environmental sciences is offered as a major only; there is no minor program at this time. Major requirements include completion of the required core courses, and choosing and completing either a Track in Environmental Studies or in Environmental Science. Please see the Track Coordinators for additional information and guidance.

CORE COURSES for the major

  1. Introduction to Environmental Science, ENVS 100 (4 credits).
  2. Human Ecology: Biological Anthropology, ANTH 200 (3 credits), or Globalization and Environment, INTD 221 (4 credits).
  3. Principles of Economics: Microeconomics, ECON 201 (3 credits).
  4. Environmental Analysis, Policy, and Law, ENVS 301 (3 credits).
  5. Math: Precalculus Mathematics, MATH 085 (3 credits), or Integrated Precalculus/Calculus, MATH 139 A and 139 B (7 credits), or Calculus and Analytic Geometry I (4 credits).
  6. Statistics: Elementary Statistics, MATH 080 (3 credits), or Statistics, PSYC/SOC 314 (4 credits).


GUIDELINES FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES TRACK

Students must complete at least 18 credits from the following requirements:

  1. A methods course from the social sciences or humanities (SOC 310, ANTH/SOC 311, PLSC 280, or HIST 380).
  2. A four-course cluster, including at least six units (6) at the 300-level or above (see the Environmental Studies Track Coordinator for approved list of courses and course selection advisement).
  3. A least one course from the Environmental Science Track.

GUIDELINES FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE TRACK

Students must complete at least 15 credits from the following requirements:

  1. A four-course cluster, including at least six units (6) at the 300-level or above (see the Environmental Science Track Coordinator for approved list of courses and course selection advisement).
  2. A least one course from the Environmental Studies Track.
