Eric Rivera '08 - Singing His Own Tune

Eric Rivera Class of 2008
  • CLASS: 2008
  • MAJOR: Music
  • INTERNSHIP: Administrative Intern, Colburn School of the Arts

As a child Eric Rivera dreamed of being a conductor. In college he worked to make that dream come true by perfecting his talents as a musician, singer, and composer.

Winner of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Meritorious Achievement Award for original composition in 2007, Rivera has frequently shared his talents with his peers at Whittier College during various performances. He has also worked with three local churches, adding his bass voice to the chorus.

"These jobs all helped me develop individually as a musician, and to experience different leadership styles via an array of conductors," he said.

For his professional internship he choose the Colburn School of the Arts, a nationally-recognized pre-college and conservatory music school.

"I worked in various capacities from library acquisitions to admissions and worked part-time in their brand new music library," he said.

As for immediate future goals, he plans to do some relief work in New Orleans. But, music will continue to be part of his life with the goal of “singling professionally.”
