Technology in Mathematics

A number of mathematics courses offered at Whittier College use the power of today's computer technology to simulate real-world situations in the classroom. We use software packages like Maple, Microsoft Excel, SPSS, MatLab, C++ and Java Programming environments, TeX/LaTeX typesetting packages, etc. A Math Lab containing twelve Pentium 4 PCs running Windows XP Pro and 2 classrooms with thirty PCs are used heavily throughout the year.

The following is a brief list of the mathematics courses in which the student is most likely to use different software packages:

Mathematics for the Liberal Arts, MATH 75
Elementary Statistics, MATH 80
Integrated Precalculs/Calculus , Math 139A, B
Calculus and Analytic Geometry, MATH 141A, B, 241
Probability and Statistics, MATH 315
Differential Equations, MATH 345 A, B
Numerical Analysis, MATH 350
