Department of Psychology
Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Psychology at Whittier College, where students and faculty study how people and animals think and behave. We collaborate in courses and student/faculty research focused on scientific studies of personality, mental health, development, learning, cognition, social interaction, and biological foundations. This January and spring semester, we also have special courses in the psychology of consciousness, law, terrorism, group processes, and human sexuality.
Our core programs for the major—Writing Across the Curriculum and Research Across the Curriculum—prepare students for all types future work, but especially post-graduate study of psychology and related fields. Students are involved in the activities of the department through the Psych Club, Psi Chi, the Psychology Council, and they regularly attend at local, regional, and national conventions.
Drop by the office of any psychology department faculty member to learn more about how you might participate in the psychology program at Whittier.
