IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Whittier College encourages applications from international students as part of its commitment to creating and nurturing a diverse and global learning atmosphere. We welcome applications from students who wish to pursue an undergraduate education with the desire to learn in the interdisciplinary approach of a liberal arts curriculum.
While there are limited academic scholarships available to international students, they do not cover the entire cost of funding a Whittier College education. The annual cost for the 2007-08 academic year for tuition is $29,860; fees, $1,800; room and board, $8,970; and books, $450 (cost of books may vary).These costs do not include transportation and personal expenses.
What is required to apply for admission?
In order to be considered for admission, first year international students who are not U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents must submit all of the following application materials by our Regular Decision deadline of February 1:
Application for Admission; an essay or personal statement; all transcripts from secondary schools and universities (officially translated, if not in English) including mark sheets/certificates as appropriate; recommendations from your counselor and a teacher (if you do not have a counselor, you can request an additional recommendation from a teacher, principal, headmaster or dean); results of the new SAT I; Certification of Finances Form; Foreign Student Financial Aid Form; and a $50 application fee. For non-native English speakers, a minimum new internet based TOEFL score of 80 is required (550 paper-based/ 213 electronic-based equivalent), no exceptions will be made for either the TOEFL or
SAT I.
The Admission Committee will also consider the difficulty of your classes, your scholastic accomplishments, your activities and leadership, as well as your values and personal commitment to service. Deadline for transfer students (students with advanced standing) is April 15. All international students, with the exception of those currently studying in the United States, must enter in the Fall semester only. International Transfer students currently studying in the United States may apply for the Spring term. Whittier College accepts the Common Application (available on-line by clicking here).
