WHITTIER COLLEGE GRANT

This grant is an institutional grant for undergraduate students based on financial and scholastic eligibility. The Whittier College Grant is subject to change if any outside federal /state grants or institutional endowments are awarded to the student.

 

FEDERAL PELL GRANT

The Federal Pell Grant is awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree. This grant will be credited to your account upon full-time enrollment (12-15 units). If you are enrolled for fewer than full-time, you may be eligible to receive a prorated Federal Pell Grant.
The maximum award for the 2008-2009 award year (July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009) is $4,731. The maximum can change each award year based on your financial need, cost to attend school and whether you enroll as a full-time or part-time student.

 

FEDERAL SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANT (FSEOG)

A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate "exceptional" need.
Full-time enrollment (12-15 units) is required to receive this award. FSEOG funds are limited and funds may not be available for applicants who do not meet Whittier College's priority funding deadlines. The amount of FSEOG eligible students may receive is from and based on the availability funding at Whittier College.

 

THE ACADEMIC COMPETITIVENESS GRANT

The Academic Competitiveness Grant is a federal, need-based grant awarded to undergraduate freshmen and sophomore students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant, completed a "rigorous high school education" as defined by federal guidelines, and are U.S. citizens. Full-time enrollment (12-18 units) is required to receive this award.

The Academic Competitiveness Grant will provide eligible students up to $750 for the first year of undergraduate study, and up to $1,300 for the second year of undergraduate study. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0.

 

THE NATIONAL SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS ACCESS TO RETAIN TALENT GRANT (NATIONAL SMART GRANT)

The National SMART Grant is a federal, need-based grant awarded to junior and senior undergraduate students who are Federal Pell Grant recipients, U.S. citizens and who are majoring in subjects determined to be critical to national security. Full time enrollment (12-18 units) is required to receive this award along with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

A National SMART Grant will provide eligible students up to $4,000 each academic year.

 

CAL GRANT A AND B

California State Grants are awarded to California residents on the basis of financial need and GPA. Award maximums are established each year by the California Student Aid Commission and are based upon current state funding levels. To be eligible for this award, California residents must have completed the Cal Grant GPA Verification Form and the FAFSA by March 2, 2008.

If you are a new Cal Grant recipient, you will receive a California Aid Report (CAR) from the California Student Aid Commission indicating your eligibility. Cal Grants are renewable, provided you file a FAFSA each year, maintain satisfactory academic progress, have not completed the equivalent of eight or more semesters of undergraduate course work, and continue to demonstrate need.

  • If Whittier College is not listed on your CAR, please add the Whittier College code 001342 and return the CAR to the California Student Aid Commission. Your Cal Grant will not be awarded until Whittier College receives your information from the California Student Aid Commission.
