Admission & Aid
Types of Aid
Whittier College Grant
This grant is an institutional need-based grant for undergraduate students. However, this grant is subject to change if any outside grants are awarded to the student.
Federal Pell Grant
A federal need-based grant, awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree. This grant will be credited to your account upon full-time enrollment (12-15 units). If you are enrolled for fewer than 12 units, you may be eligible to receive a prorated Federal Pell Grant.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
A federal grant awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate “exceptional” need.
Cal Grant A and B
California State Grants are awarded to California residents on the basis of financial need and GPA. Award maximums are established each year by the California Student Aid Commission and are based upon current state funding levels. To be eligible for this award, California residents must have completed the Cal Grant GPA Verification Form and the FAFSA by March 2, 2008.
Your Cal Grant Award represents an estimate of the amount of Cal Grant funding you may qualify for, based on what the College believes the 2008-2009 Cal Grant award levels will be.
If you are a new Cal Grant recipient, you will receive a California Aid Report (CAR) from the California Student Aid Commission indicating your eligibility. Cal Grants are renewable, provided you file a FAFSA each year, maintain satisfactory academic progress, have not completed the equivalent of eight or more semesters of undergraduate course work, and continue to demonstrate need.
Cal Grant Replacement Awards
If we estimated and included a Cal Grant award on your initial Award Letter, but you receive a CAR stating you are ineligible for a Cal Grant, the College will replace your Estimated Cal Grant with a Whittier College Grant. This is called a Cal Grant Replacement Award.
