Alianza de los Amigos
Alianza de los Amigos is Whittier’s Latino alumni association. With currently more than 27% Latino undergraduate students at Whittier College, Alianza is dedicated to the educational success of these talented and dedicated students and serves in a variety of ways, including raising funds for scholarships and other programs. Founded in 1970, Alianza has adopted the following seven primary objectives:
- Participate as an integral part of the College community.
- Provide resources and assistance to continue the effort and activities of the Ortiz Programs, named in honor of Martin Ortiz ’48, the founding director of the Center for Mexican American Affairs (now the Cultural Center).
- Advise and provide direction to Latino students as mentors and by identifying internship opportunities.
- Recruit qualified Latino students who can meet the established standard of admissions at Whittier College.
- Participate in the recruitment of qualified Latino faculty and staff that would be representative of the student body population.
- Recognize outstanding Latino alumni who have excelled in their chosen field and who have contributed to the welfare of the College.
- Promote periodical fundraising projects in order to develop resources to help Latino students.
