WHITTIER WEEKEND 2008
October 16 - 19 brought more than 900 alumni, families, and friends to the Whittier campus to celebrate milestone reunions and the grand opening of the Campus Center, A.J. Villalobos Hall, and the Olive & Bob Clift Bookstore, and to attend the Homecoming football game and pep rally.
POET TAILGATE PARTY & FOOTBALL GAME AT MENLO COLLEGE
On September 27, close to 100 members of our extended Poet family came together for a tailgate breakfast, just prior to the Poet football game against Menlo College. In attendance were President Sharon Herzberger and David Herzberger, Athletic Director Rob Coleman, Vice President for Advancement Elizabeth Robison, and G.O.L.D. Chair Nash Ream '06. (Of note, at the start of the game, the Poet stands were more filled than the home team's!)
WHITTIER COLLEGE DAY @ THE HUNTINGTON
On September 6, members of the John Greenleaf Whittier Society joined faculty, select students, and and Los Angeles-area
alumni for a special event at The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botannical Gardens in Pasadena. The day began with a special JGWS-only "Insider's Look" behind the famed Library Collections, led by Huntington curator of literary manuscripts Sue Hodson '71. Following, Hodson gave a brief talk about the institution's history and current national project, The Big Read, then participants had the opportunity for a docent-led tour of either the Estate, the Gardens, or the Liu Fang Yuan (Garden of Flowing Essence).

2008 SUMMER SEND-OFF
On August 8, alumni from the Seattle area joined incoming new students and their families for this annual summer celebration. During the afternoon, Hawaiian-themed picnic, which was hosted by alumnus and trustee Ken Greenbaum '53 and his wife Betsy,

2008 FEINBERG LECTURER:THE HONORABLE RICHARD J. GOLDSTONE
On April 24, Richard J. Goldstone, Justice of the South African Constitutional Court, spent the day at Whittier College, meeting with students and ending his visit by delivering the 2008 Feinberg Lecture. Preceding the lecture, Goldstone was awarded an honorary degree from Whittier College in recognition of his work in the development, protection, and preservation of human rights in countries such as Rwanda, Kosovo, and his native South Africa.

In March 2008, Tim Clott ’70, longtime studio executive and management force behind such children’s television shows as the Emmy-winning Wishbone and Hi-5, shared stories from his varied career in the entertainment industry, and related examples of successful gambles, such as how his team returned the iconic “Barney the Dinosaur” to solid market footing.
