Community
Society Services
Each year, the members of Whittier's 10 local fraternities and sororities—here, called "societies"— contribute hundreds of volunteer hours and actively fundraise for local and national charities. In addition, they take part in a wide variety of philanthropic events and, in their leadership, encourage others within the campus community to participate.
As an ongoing committment, the societies pursue individual service projects with specfic charity and community organizations; in many cases, these are longtime relationships, established through consecutive years of volunteerism and support. Throughout the past year, society members have participated in events and service projects such as:
- AIDS Walk LA
- American Cancer Society's Relay for Life
- the American Red Cross Blood Drive
- St. Matthias Soup Kitchen
- Breast Cancer Awareness Month
- Helping Hands Day and other campus and community clean-up events.
In addition, society members annually dedicate a number of hours serving as tutors and mentors to children living in Whittier and the surrounding communities.
