Faculty Resources

Understanding that the faculty is its greatest resource—and that Whittier professors in particular are a vibrant, active group of working scholars—Whittier College fully supports opportunities for professors to pursue their own research and topics of interests, via sabbaticals, brief leaves due to fellowships or other awards, faculty development grants, or through an appointment to Whittier College Faculty Master.

An overview of a number of policies and procedures pertaining to these opportunities and benefits are available within the following webpages; however, the most complete description of faculty guidelines can be found in the Whittier College Faculty Handbook.

Statement of Academic Freedom

Whittier College adheres to the principles on academic freedom and tenure, as stated by the American Association of University Professors: "Institutions of higher education are conducted for the common good and not to further the interest of either the individual teacher or the institution as a whole. The common good depends upon the free search for truth and its free exposition."
