Linda Ross, Director of Career Services with a studentPURPOSE & MISSION

The purpose of the Office of Career Services is to assist students in developing and implementing career-related goals, in planning an initial career path, and in expediently finding that first position post-graduation. Our mission is to help students understand the connection between their liberal arts education and the broad range of professional opportunities that an interdisciplinary education can present.

SERVICES

Our primary services include career planning, career preparation, and job search assistance for Whittier College students, as well as for alumni.

  • Career planning services include individual counseling, self-assessment workshops, assessment inventories, career planning seminars, and assistance navigating materials in our career resource library.
  • Career preparation involves the development of internships and other work opportunities to assist students in acquiring critical, career-related skills and experience prior to graduation.
  • Job search assistance includes providing referrals for on-campus, work-study positions; off-campus part- and full-time job listings; workshops on résumé writing, interviewing skills, job search strategies; and an on-campus interview program.

RESOURCES

Career Services maintains a library of career-related books and employment source materials, accessible during business hours. Additionally, the office maintains directories and information on graduate school programs and national fellowship opportunities, for students whose professional goals might require additional research opportunities or advanced degrees. Online services include targeted information and links for career exploration, internships, summer jobs, full-time employment, graduate school, conducting a job search, and much more.
