Honors Convocation
Taking place during Family Weekend, the Honors Convocation features a formal processional, student speakers, choir performance, and faculty in full academic regalia. During this event, academic achievement, service, and leaderhip are recognized, as several Whittier College awards are handed out to students for outstanding scholarly performance, including:
- Martin Ortiz Award for Academic Excellence in Spanish
- Tara Molloy Service & Leadership Award in Spanish
- C. Milo Connick Award in Recognition of Outstanding Work in Religious Studies
- W. Roy Newsom Award in Chemistry
- Pyle Mathematics Prize
- Richard T. Clawson Service & Leadership Award in Business
- Ben G. Burnett Award for Outstanding Academic and Leadership Contributions in Political Science
- Newsom Creative Writing Awards (Poetry and Fiction)
In addition, the winner of the year's Harry W. Nerhood Teaching Excellence Award is announced, given to a nominated member of the faculty, and selected staff are honored with Keys to the College and the Marilyn Viech Award.
