Commuter Student Information & Resources

Approximately 25 percent of Whittier College students commute to campus. The following is a compiled list of commuter resources and information.

College Business Hours

Whittier College offices (Registrar, Business, Billing, Financial Aid, etc.) are open Monday through Friday, 8a.m. to 5p.m., with the exception of the Department of Campus Safety, which operates 24/7.

Registering Your Vehicle

All students and employees who operate a motor vehicle on College owned property must have the vehicle registered with the Department of Campus Safety.

There is no initial registration fee for either students or employees. Current State Department of Motor Vehicles registration and a valid drivers license are required to register your vehicle with Whittier College. Permits are available in the Department of Campus Safety, Monday through Friday, 8a.m. to 4p.m. The College parking permit should be placed on the inside of the front-windshield, lower left side, so that it is visible at all times. Motorcycles must be registered with Campus Safety, but no permit tag will be issued.

Please note, a parking permit does not guarantee or reserve a parking space. It does however give you the privilege to park/or drive on property owned and/or operated by Whittier College. Library Hours

Wardman Library, located in the Rose Hills Center for Library and Information Resources, has a number of computer workstations, study areas, and study lounges open to student use. Eating is permitted within the library. Daily library hours are as follows (but modify slightly during summer and January terms):

Monday-Thursday, 8a.m.- Midnight
Friday, 8a.m.-5p.m.
Saturday, 10a.m. - 5p.m.
Sunday, Noon - Midnight

Campus Dining

Two on-campus dining options--the Campus Inn and The Spot--are open daily for all students. The Campus Inn (CI) serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a variety of hot and cold buffet items; the CI is closed between meals. The Spot, a Whittier tradition, is the campus coffeehouse, open continously throughout the day for burgers and hot sandwiches, mini-pizzas, burritos, and salads, as well as espresso drinks and smoothies. Both the CI and The Spot accept the student meal-plan card, flex dollars, or cash payment for each meal.

Campus Safety

As the campus crime log indicates, in general the Whittier College campus is a secure environment. However, students who are leaving or walking through campus late at night are cautioned to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious persons or activities immediately to Campus Safety by calling 562.907.4911 or by using one of the emergency call boxes located on campus.

A campus escort service is also offered by Campus Safety; if you find you will be leaving campus late and would like an officer escort to your car, please call 562.907.4211 before departing your location.
