The Black Student Union (BSU) assists Black students enrolled at Whittier, both academically and socially, through events, programs, and activities held throughout the year. In addition, the BSU seeks to make an impact on the political, cultural, psychological, and intellectual development of its members. BSU also collaborates with its sister group Black Arts and Cultural Dance (BACD). With a strong emphasis on building community and strong bonds among black students, BSU's goal is to create a legacy here at Whittier College, which will reinforce every member's pride in oneself, one's race, and one's educational and life goals.

Black Arts and Cultural Dance

Black Arts and Cultural Dance (BACD) is an organization aimed at connecting the African Diaspora to their roots through the different mediums of artistic expression. Over the course of our Whittier experience, the group has attracted more members and our BACD family extends to artists both on and off campus. We have a core dance group which represents the 'movement' of BACD. Our dances derive from a very diverse background, including hip-hop, dancehall, interpretive, as well as dances from different African cultures. Aside from choreography and weekly rehearsals, BACD coordinates activities and events held by the organization. We try to connect with artists of different forms and bring them together for the promotion of positive creation of expression. Everyone is welcomed to become a member of BACD!
