PARIVAR

P.A.R.I.V.A.R, the Hindi word for family, stands for Partnership for Appreciation, Respect, and Interest in the Values, Arts and Realities of India. These are the values our club seeks to embody. We strive to raise awareness and understanding of the multi-faceted cultures of this diverse nation, through field trips to cultural centers, and exposure to the traditional arts and cuisines of India.

As part of our Diwali celebrations, members of students visited the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir & Cultural Center, where we were given free entry and a guided tour!

P.A.R.I.V.A.R. had a mehendi (aka henna) booth at the 2009 Homecoming Carnival, where Whittier students could have genuine henna (made in India) applied on their hands and feet for just $1!

P.A.R.I.V.A.R performed at the October ’09 BACD coffeehouse, dancing to the popular Hindi song ‘Maahi Ve’.

Our group made a trip to Artesia - the local ‘little India’ - for a taste of North Indian cuisine and culture. We munched down on tandoori chicken, korma, saag paneer, bhel puri, ghosht, and naan, followed by kheer, gulab jamuns, and halwa for dessert!

P.A.R.I.V.A.R saw a Bollywood movie at a nearby Indian theater, and stopped in Artesia after for some delicious chai and chaat (tea & snacks)!
