Interfaith Program

Interfaith Program at Whittier CollegeWhittier College believes that a student's spiritual and religious growth is an important dimension of their overall education. We encourage you to explore questions about spirituality, values and beliefs as part of your intellectual journey.

Mission Statement:

Under the umbrella of Whittier's Cultural Center, the Interfaith department seeks to foster religious and spiritual diversity within the student body. To that end, the mission of the Interfaith department is two-fold. First, that existing student religious/spiritual groups are given the support they need to pursue their respective goals. Second, that Interfaith programming is geared toward cultivating a campus-wide commitment to religious awareness, acceptance, and dialogue.

Objectives:

To provide support for student religious/spiritual groups

  • Meeting regularly with leaders of existing student religious groups and helping them coordinate meetings and events
  • Help establish new student religious/spiritual groups and provide them the administrative and financial support needed to be active throughout the school year
  • Partner with local churches, temples, mosques, synagogues, etc. to provide easier access for various religious groups on campus
  • Help connect students and student groups with interested faulty mentors/advisers.

To cultivate and promote Interfaith initiatives and programs

  • Interfaith Caucus - organizes dialogue sessions open to students from all religious/spiritual backgrounds to engage in meaningful conversation about religious diversity with acceptance and mutual respect.
  • Form partnerships with Religious Studies Department to promote educational programs (i.e. field trips, film sessions, speakers, etc.).
  • Plan collaborative community service efforts that will bring students of different faith backgrounds together.
  • Coordinate with established Cultural Center programs and inject a religious/spiritual element.
  • Plan sacred site visits open to all students at Whittier College
