About the Health Center

Located near the Campus Safety headquarters, the Student Health & Wellness Center provides primary health care services, as well as health and wellness resources, to Whittier College residents and commuters.
Health Center

The Center is staffed fulltime throughout the academic year by a licensed Registered Nurse. During the week, a number of physicians hold rotating office hours and see patients on an appointment or walk-in basis.

There is no charge for a visit, and no insurance is necessary. However, any medication prescribed will incur a small cost to the student patient. All students, prior to enrolling, will be asked to complete and submit a Health History Record and a physician-signed Health Examination form.

After hours Emergencies

Cases that arise after office hours, that require significant emergency care, and in the case of certain illnesses better treated in a hospital facility will be referred to nearby Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital (562.698.0811).

As the Director of Student Health Services, Stella has a three tiered responsibility. First, she manages and directs the operations of the Student Health Center as part of her administrative role. Second, she provides health educational programming and outreach to with events, presentations, monthly newsletters, etc. Third, she is responsible to make sure that all of the students have completed their health requirements and are in compliance with state and college standards.

She has been an RN for over 19 years with experience in ICU, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, and College Health Nursing. Stella has been working in Student Health Services for over 13 years. She has a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from University of Phoenix, has received National Board Certification in 2004 as a College Health Nurse. She holds a Public Health Nurse Certificate and am certified in childbirth education, CPR, First Aid and AED. Stella believes in holistic care and her goal is to help you achieve physical and emotional well-being while you are a student here so that when you can graduate from WC, you will make healthier life-style choices.

Melinda worked as a Medical Assistant for 6 years before she went back to school for her Vocational Nurse License. She has worked in areas such as Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Pediatrics, in both Acute and Urgent Care settings. At the Student Health Center, Melinda is the person you will see before the Provider. Her job is to gather important information pertinent to your visit and assist the Doctor with any procedures. One of her goals as a Nurse is to help see you at your best, even when you've come in feeling your worst.

Gracie is the office manager here at the student health center, when you call her, she will be the one to greet you, and happy to assist you in any way that she can, her family and friends are a big part of her life, and while you are a student here her goal is to treat you with the same compassion.

The Health Center is required by law to keep information about you confidential. No information about you is released to your family, the faculty, college administration, or anyone else without your written authorization.
