Guidelines for a Minor in Public Health

The minor consists of a minimum of 18 credits distributed as follows:

Required Courses:

  • Introduction to Public Health, INTD 290 (3 credits)
    *Introduction to Public Health is advised to be the first course students take.
  • Elementary Statistics, MATH 080, 3 credits, or Statistics, PSYC/SOC 214, (4 credits)
  • Epidemiology, BIOL 390 (3 credits)
  • Social Welfare Policy, SOWK 364 (3 credits)

Any two of the following courses:

Social/behavioral/cultural science topics in public health

  • Human Behavior and the Social Environment, SOWK 373 (3 credits)
  • Legal Issues, SOWK 290 (4 credits)
  • Sociology of Health and Medicine, Soc 343 (3 credits)
  • Biological Bases of Behavior, PSYC 222 (3 credits)

  • Stress and Disease in the 21st Century, PSYC 227 (4 credits)
  • Current Topics in Health, KNS 300 (3 credits)

Environmental science topics in public health

  • Introduction to Environmental Science, ENVS 100 (4 credits)
