Club Sports
Club Sports are
advised out of the Office of Student Activities and are recognized
student organizations that serve students’ interest in sports and
recreational activities. Club Sports are similar to other student
clubs in their design and structure; however, additional policies
must be considered for these groups due to their physical nature.
Therefore, all Club Sports must have a coach training in the sport
or activity and take extra precautions during their events.
Financial commitments are met primarily through student-sponsored
fund raising events. Club Sports include the following:
Breakdancing Club
This group meets
weekly to practice the fine art of breakdancing and to learn some
sweet new moves. It’s more than just dancing, it’s an appreciation
of the culture associated with breakdancing, as well.
Martial Arts Club
The Martial Arts Club offers students an opportunity to learn and
practice combat skills. One of our own faculty is currently
coaching and teaching weekly lessons on campus. The classes are
primarily for beginners and students are currently not competing
outside of the College.
Whittier
College Cheer Squad
The purpose of Whittier College Cheer Squad is to build morale for
athletic teams, to promote spirit on campus, and to instill pride in
Whittier College. The squad is composed of sophomores, juniors, and
seniors and practices an average of twice a week. Tryouts are held
in the spring for next year's squad.
Whittier
College Dance Team
The Dance Team strives to support Whittier College by participating
at various athletic and non-athletic school events. Practices are
held three times a week, two hours a day, for the entire year. The
Dance Team performs stylized hip-hop and technical jazz routines,
which are choreographed by professionals as well as students.
Auditions are held in the beginning of fall semester. For more
information please contact
wcdanceteam@yahoo.com.
Wickets and Bails
(Cricket Club)
For those that
enjoy the favorite English game. Wickets and Bails meets to watch
cricket matches, talk about the sport and play a few games.
INTRAMURALS
Whittier College sponsors a variety of athletic opportunities in the
Intramural program for the entire college community. The Office of
Student Activities advises the program, while the COR Club Sports
Representative coordinates the Intramural Sports competitions. All
students and staff are eligible to participate and almost all
intramurals are co-ed. The sports offered at the time are
volleyball, basketball, soccer and ultimate frisbee.
