Honor Societies
Alpha Kappa Delta (National
Sociology Honor Society)
The purpose of Alpha Kappa Delta is to increase awareness of
contemporary issues in society with a goal towards social
betterment. It is an honor society for those interested and
committed to the study of sociology.
Alpha Pi Delta (National Business Honorary Fraternity)
A professional Business Administration fraternity that will foster
excellence among its members in the fulfillment of both their
personal and professional potential.
Alpha Psi Omega (National Theater Honorary Society)
The purpose of Alpha Psi Omega is to stimulate interest in dramatic
activities at Whittier College and to secure for the College all the
advantages and mutual helpfulness provided by a large national
honorary fraternity. Students are selected as a reward for their
efforts in participating in the plays staged by the College. Alpha
Psi Omega sponsors Poet Playhouse as an opportunity for the College
community to showcase its talents.
Delta Phi Upsilon (National Honorary Fraternity of Early
Childhood Education)
The purpose of this Fraternity is educational, namely, to give
direction and thought, and action for childhood education on an
ever-widening scale. To work steadfastly for the improvement of the
welfare of all young children, to develop an awareness within our
society of its responsibility to meet the needs of young children.
Lambda Alpha (Anthropology Honor Society)
Our local Whittier College Chapter, like the national organization
of which we are members, exists in order 'to encourage and stimulate
scholarship and research in Anthropology by recognizing and honoring
superior achievement in the discipline among students, faculty and
other persons engaged in the study of Anthropology'.
Nu Mu Rho (Honorary Chemical Society)
The members of Nu Mu Rho associate ourselves to recognize and
stimulate personal accomplishments in chemical fields and promote
interest in all branches of pure and applied chemistry.
Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honorary Society)
Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society, the objective of which is
the promotion of the study of history through the encouragement of
research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning
and thought among historians.
Phi Epsilon Kappa (Kinesiology and Leisure Science Honor Society)
The members of Phi Epsilon Kappa associate ourselves to advance the
fields of physical education, exercise science, and other
Kinesiology and Leisure Science (KLS) topics. This will give members
a chance to experience social and educational programs pertaining to
KLS, both of and off campus.
Phi Sigma Tau (National Philosophy Honorary Society)
The purposes of this national organization are to stimulate an
active interest in the study of philosophy, to provide opportunities
for students to publish research papers of merit, and to honor those
students who have scholarship and personal interest in philosophy.
Pi Sigma Alpha (National Political Science Honorary)
Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society,
promotes successful students who seek rich connections and an
understanding of governmental issues.
Psi Chi (National Honor Society in Psychology)
Psi Chi was originally founded in 1929 and now has over 400 chapters
at accredited colleges and universities across the country. The
purposes of Psi Chi are to encourage and stimulate individual
members within the field of psychology as well as advance the
science of psychology.
Sigma Delta Pi (National Spanish Honorary)
Sigma Delta Pi, a national Spanish honorary, encourages successful
Whittier College students in their pursuit of the study of Spanish
culture and language.
Sigma Pi Sigma (National Physics Honorary)
Sigma Pi Sigma encourages successful students in their pursuit of
the study of physics.
Theta Alpha Kappa (Religious Studies Honor Society)
Theta Alpha Kappa is the National Academic Honor Society for
undergraduate and graduate students working within the fields of
Religious Studies and/or Theology. Our local Whittier College
Chapter, Alpha Eta Chi (AHX), like the national organization of
which we are members, exists to honor academic excellence in the
field of Religious Studies and to encourage and increase scholarship
within this field.
