With its connection to life-long learning and strong character
development, community service has a prominent place at Whittier and
within Student Activities. Service also resonates with student
development values and affirms the historical Quaker mission upon which
the institution was founded.
Student Activities offers opportunities for one-time and short-term
volunteer opportunities on-campus and within the local Whittier
community. In the past, volunteer activities have included:
-
Sportsfest Blood Drive
-
Fire Relief
Donations
-
Food Drive
-
Snowman/Angel Tree
Project
-
Collection for
homeless shelters
-
Group work with
persons, ages fifteen to adult, with physical, developmental or
learning disabilities
-
Participation in
the AIDS Walk Los Angeles
Students have found long-term volunteer opportunities as a result of
their participation in one of the community service projects. All of
these volunteer projects generate participation not only from students
but from staff and faculty as well.
There are many more opportunities to serve Whittier College and the
surrounding community. The Office of Student Activities can get you or
your organization connected with these and other opportunities.
