Alumni Strategic Initiatives
In May of 2010, the Alumni Board of Directors unanimously voted to make radical changes to its structure, with a plan to more closely align its ongoing work with the goals of the College in general, and the Alumni Relations Program specifically. Following, several new working committees were formed to address six targeted needs, or strategic initiatives. Since that time, this guiding document has been reviewed, refined, and as of fall 2014, adopted by the current Alumni Board of Directors.
Under the Association Bylaws the committees that will tackle these initiatives are chaired by elected Board Members. Participation on any committee, however, is open to all interested members of the Whittier College Alumni Association, regardless of class year and geographical location.
1. ALUMNI-TO-ALUMNI CAREER NETWORKING
Share your expertise, make new business contacts, learn about opportunities in different fields via local, regional, and online programs.
2. ALUMNI-TO-STUDENT MENTORSHIP
Coach students in how to really think about life-after-college, make the transition from student to engaged alumnus/a, and contribute to the development of their career and leadership skills while undergraduates.
3. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT & RECOGNITION
Each year, the College is aided by the good work of our volunteers, who continue to serve the communal mission of the College. Help us expand our roster of active Poets, identify and plan activities that feed alumni interests and expertise, and advance our message through an annual Poets for Others service activities.
4. REGIONAL ALUMNI CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT
New alumni chapters are in nascent stages in regions across the country and abroad, with planned programs ranging from social events to career networking to community service.
5. BRIDGING ALUMNI AFFINITY NETWORKS
From societies to student government to athletics and cultural organizations, active Whittier students form a special link with the College via affinity programs. Help us build the Association community by linking these networks via programs, events, and other targeted opportunities.
6. ALUMNI COMMUNICATION & OUTREACH
Join the discussion already in progress! Help us discover how we can best communicate with alumni today, spread the word to your networks about current College initiatives and news, and strategize about new ways we can engage more alumni in our programs and opportunities.
