THE BROADOAKS SCIENCE ACADEMY

The Science Academy is Broadoaks’ flagship summer program. Students build scientific knowledge and inquiry skills throughout the summer. This year’s theme weeks include

Laboratory Science: Experiments!
Weeks 1 & 2: June 17 – 28

Students will explore the three branches of science (Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science) through a variety of experiments. Using the tools of scientific thinking, students will observe, make predictions test, and record their findings.

Oceanography: Life under the Sea
Weeks 3 & 4: July 1 - 12

Students will study the unique habitats of life under water. Students will dive into the world of an oceanographer. They will study how these environments and the animals that live there play an important role in our lives.

CSI Mystery Week
Weeks 5 & 6: July 15 – 26

A classic whodunit! Using clues left behind at the scene such as fingerprints, footprints, and a mysterious note, students will use deductive reasoning and processes of elimination to help them crack the case. They'll do fingerprint and handwriting analysis, as well as other scientific tests to figure out "whodunit".

Astronomy: Soaring into Space
Weeks 7 & 8: July 29 - August 9
Students will soar into space by learning about our great planet Earth. They will explore a variety of resources to find out about the solar system and the history of space travel. They may even design a space ship for future space exploration! A field trip to the shuttle Endeavor is planned for grades 4 – 9.
