The following educational materials are available. Many are at no cost. Some may be ordered on-line, as indicated below.

"Introduction to the Food Industry" (New Self-study Program)

A food science self-study program for students (grades 9-12) is available free for teachers and students on IFT's Home Page (http://www.ift.org). This program of 8 study modules on topics related to all aspects of Food Science was developed by the California Polytechnic State University Food Science and Nutrition Department and Safeway Foods, Inc. Distribution via the World Wide Web is being funded by the IFT Foundation.

"In Good Taste: Careers in Food Science" (Order this on-line through Video Placement Worldwide)

This 14-minute VHS videotape (complete with teaching guides and poster) highlights career opportunities in food science. Schools may request a free copy of the video on "permanent loan," by calling IFT's Career Guidance Department (1-312-782-8424) or writing to IFT for a "Video Request Form." The school information requested on the form must be completed and then submitted by free FAX to our video distributor at 1-800-358-5218. Requests should specify the grade level (7-9 or 10-12) for appropriate collateral materials. Individuals and corporations may purchase a copy of the videotape and/or collateral materials for $29.95 from the IFT Customer Service Department at 1-312-782-8424.

"The Great Food Fight"

This 13-minute VHS videotape (complete with collateral 4-unit Lesson Guides, 12 Student Blackline Masters and Poster) is entitled "The Great Food Fight." It presents important food safety information for students of all ages (grades 4-12). Information relates how this topic relates to students and foodborne illnesses, introduces various related microorganisms and illustrates proper food handling.

The school information requested on the form must be completed and then submitted by free FAX to our video distributor at 1- 800-358-5218. (This video was funded by a grant to the IFT Foundation by the Pfizer Food Group.)

"Worlds Largest Industry"

This 16-page brochure for high school and college students briefly describes the field of food science and technology, and opportunities in food science and technology. First 25 copies are free; more than 50 copies are $0.50 each.

"Food Scientist" (Chronicle Guidance Brief #114)

Single copies of this 4-page career brief on Food Scientists are available free from IFT. Bulk quantities are available for purchase directly from Chronicle Guidance Publications, Inc., 66 Aurora St., Moravia, NY 13118-1190 (Telephone: 1-315-497-0330).

"Career Profiles" (Reprinted from Food Technology magazine)

This 24-page booklet reprints profiles of 11 different occupations of Food Scientists within the food industry. Single copies are free; additional copies are $0.25 each (or the booklet may be copied).

"Experiments In Food Science"

This 80-page booklet contains 7 basic food science experiments designed for use in middle and high school science classes. Booklet includes teacher and student activity guides (which may be copied for student usage). Single copies are free; additional copies are $1.00 each (or the booklet may be copied).

"Enzymes In Food Systems Experiments'

This 44-page booklet contains 3 food science experiments related to Enzyme Systems for use in middle and high school science classes. This single booklet contains teacher information and activity guides, sample data tables, student activity guides and visual masters for copying. Single copies are free; additional copies are $1.00 each (or the booklet may be copied).

"Microbiology In Food Systems Experiments"

This 67-page booklet contains 4 food science experiments related to microbiology and fermentation for use in middle and high school science classes. This single booklet contains teacher information and activity guides, sample data tables, student activity guides and visual masters for copying. Single copies are free; additional copies are $1.00 each (or the booklet may be copied).
