This week, the independent online publication recognized Whittier College for its inclusion of people of all walks of life. With a ranking of 30, Whittier outperformed larger Southern California schools such as California Lutheran University and the University of San Diego.

On the publication's website, incoming freshmen and transfers can read a summary of how Whittier's teachers get to know most of their students, how its athletics programs contend with the rest of the league, and about how the services provided help students.

"The faculty is generally on a first-name basis with all their students, allowing both students and teachers to come together and form the community atmosphere that has made Whittier one of the top California Colleges," according to College Choice.

Washington Monthly also ranked Whittier in its top 100 list of liberal arts colleges. The ranking system is determined by social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s), and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country). The Princeton Review also featured Whittier as one of the best 381 colleges and universities in the 2017 edition of the flagship college guide. Finally, the recently released 2017 U.S. News and World Report ranked the College #11 in the nation for its ethnic diversity, citing that at least 43% of our student body hails from an underrepresented group.
