College Enhances Residence Halls and Common Areas for All Students

Whittier College, Residence Hall Improvements, Outdoor Living Areas,As a new school year is underway, Whittier College students will notice several improvements to the residence halls and common living areas.

These upgrades are part of a strategic seven-year plan of improvements under the direction of the College’s Office of Residential Life. Guided by requests and recommendations from a 2013 student survey and a needs assessment, the strategic plan was put in place provide an optimal residential and campus living experience for all students. 

“As opposed to focusing on one building at a time, the College opted to make improvements in all the buildings simultaneously,” said Andre Coleman, associate dean of students. "These improvements will enhance the experience of students living at the College, as well as the time commuter students spend on campus."

Both residential and commuter students will be able to stream movies from any location on campus through the Res Life Movie Streaming service, enjoy new outdoor furniture and BBQ areas in Ball, Turner, and Harris Halls, and be able to do their part to combat the drought by using new water filtration fountains and water-saving shower heads. Among upgrades to room and common area furnishing and carpeting, additional improvements include:

  • AP wireless network expansion
  • New common area kitchen equipment
  • Outdoor ping pong table and shuffle board table (Johnson and Stauffer) 
  • New smart class room (Johnson) 
  • Electronic Keyless room entry (in some halls) 
  • New common area couches (Turner)
  • New fitness room (Turner) 
  • Outdoor patio furniture­­ (Harris)
  • Common area couches 
  • Pool table upgrades
