Whittier College Student Film-makers Make Vegas Debut
June 8, 2010 Press Release
Four Whittier College student-produced films will be screened at the Campus MovieFest (CMF) 2010 International Grand Finale (IGF) at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. From June 10-13, CMF—the world's largest student film festival—will host student filmmakers from across the globe at a weekend full of events — including screenings of over 200 movies, industry workshops, networking opportunities, alumni gatherings, concerts, and a red-carpet, star-studded final ceremony at the Encore Theater.
The movies screening at IGF highlight the best of the best from over 50 participating schools, giving students an opportunity to share their movies with their peers, guests in Las Vegas, and industry leaders. The Whittier student films that will be screened throughout the three-day festival are Phoebe's Fifteen, Best Picture category; A Family on Probation, Best Drama category; Audition, Best Comedy category; and Palaver, Wild Card category.
In the fall, for the third consecutive year, teams of Whittier College students had one week to come up with an original script, cast actors, then film, score, and edit a movie limited to five minutes in length as part of the 2009-10 CMF competition. Having grown substantially in student interest and organization since its inaugural Poet run in 2007, this year's festival drew more than 50 Whittier team entries for consideration.
In all, nearly 75,000 students from universities throughout the world signed up for CMF, and thanks to presenting partner AT&T, received everything they needed to make a five minute movie in a week all for free — including Apple laptops, Panasonic HD cameras, and AT&T Samsung phones.
"We're thrilled to invite the best student filmmakers from around the country to the Wynn to celebrate their creations. We can't think of a more fun and exciting location than Vegas, and we can't wait to show attendees the line-up of events we've got planned. It's going to be an amazing weekend," said David Roemer, co-founder of Campus MovieFest.
IGF concludes with a gala ceremony where the 2010 Campus MovieFest Best Comedy, Best Drama, and Best Picture winners will be announced by special celebrity presenters. All 2010 entries will be rejudged and eligible for prizing. Top students during this year's CMF World Tour will have earned over $400,000 in cash and prizes.

CMF began nine years ago when four students at Emory University provided fellow students with everything they needed to make movies in one week. Since then, more than 250,000 students have told their stories on the big screen, receiving all the necessary technology and training for free thanks to corporate partners and schools. Past winners have walked away with over $2 million in prizes and seen their films on the big screens at CMF events nationwide, at Cannes, at Paramount Studios, and on millions of smaller screens – including AT&T mobile devices and U-verse TV, in-flight on Virgin America, and online.
