Iphigenia and Other Daughters is a re-telling of the ancient story of Agamemnon through the lives of its women. In her portrayal of these characters, McLaughlin explores the notion of sacrifice. What is the difference between Iphigenia's sacrifice of her life for the good of her country, and Electra's sacrifice of her sanity to remember her family's murderous past. How much of what we decide to do is our own free will, and how much pre-determined by our own fate, or role in society? Most importantly, when you kill for revenge, does the violence ever stop? These are some of the questions that are addressed through the lives of these characters.

This production features an all student cast and is directed by Jennifer S. Holmes, assistant professor of theatre and communication arts. Each year the theatre department produces up to four faculty directed productions in the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts. These productions afford students the opportunity to engage in theatre as a collaborative process.
