Drought-Resistant Landscaping Among Recent Campus Improvements

LandscapingAs California continues to grapple with one of the worst droughts on record, Whittier College is taking proactive steps to reduce water waste on campus by replacing grass areas with drought-resistant vegetation. The changes, outlined in a landscaping master plan approved by an administrative committee last year, are gradually being rolled out at various locations across the campus.

North Korea, Sony, and Cyber Attacks

North KoreaAlumnus Brandon Valeriano ’99, a regular contributor to Slate, shared his views on the involvement of North Korea in the cyber attacks suffered by Sony. 

According to Valeriano, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, North Korea had the motive, the means, and the ability to carry out the attack on Sony.

President Herzberger Meets with Partners, Students, and Alumni in China

Whittier College, China, HerzbergerPresident Sharon Herzberger started the new year by visiting Whittier College's Chinese partner Victoria Educational Organization (VEO) in Hong Kong. President Herzberger toured VEO's Causeway Bay Victoria International Kindergarten along with VEO Chief Principal and Whittier College trustee Dr. Maggie Koong. 

Grand Opening: Institute for Baseball Studies

The Institute for Baseball Studies, the first humanities-based research center of its kind associated with a college or university in the United States, will celebrate its grand opening on the campus of Whittier College on Friday, January 16, 2015. The festivities will commence with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m. in Mendenhall Building, Room 310. 

Music of the Wolves: An Evening with Louie Perez & David Hidalgo

Join Louie and David from Los Lobos as they take it back to the root of it all - the songs and the stories behind the songs. Louie Perez will be participating in a Q&A session at 5:00 pm. This Q&A session is free and open to the public.
