Did you
know that Whittier College not only has an alumnus in Super
Bowl XLI**, but a professor who is a popular speaker on the
subject of the Big Game?
Interviewed on the Whittier campus by NFL films last summer,
segments featuring Professor of Religious Studies and sports
enthusiast Joe Price are scheduled to run on ESPN television
stations on January 29, first at midnight, then again at
11:30a.m. (PDT). During the broadcast, which will include
footage from the NFL film archives, Price offers his
analysis of the Super Bowl as the center of American
pilgrimage by fusing the symbol systems of sports, business,
entertainment, and media.
In his
usual roundup of media interviews prior to the Big Game,
Price will also be interviewed on Seattle NPR stations KUOW
(Katy Sewall, "Weekday") and KPLU (Gary Davis, KPLU News);
please check local broadcast schedules for specific times. To read the article
published in the January 27 edition of the Miami Herald
quoting Price, “Faith & Football: Churches borrow Super Bowl
enthusiasm to score some spiritual touchdowns,” please

Planning
to be in the Seattle area? On Wednesday, January 31, at 7:30
p.m., Price will deliver
“Goal to
Go: Religion and the Super Bowl,” a lecture open to the
public, taking place at the University of Washington campus.
