Whittier College Renaissance Music Festival October 16-19, 2006SCHEDULE OF EVENTS *** Monday, October 16 ARTWORKS OF THE RENAISSANCE ERA A lecture and slide presentation on Italian and European art of the fourteenth through seventeenth centuries, given by Dr. Williametta Spencer, composer, musician, and educator. 7:30p.m., Hoover 100. General admission is free to this event. Tuesday, October 17 BORROWING IN 16TH CENTURY MUSIC An educational and musical concert performed by Los Angeles Chamber Singers' early music ensemble CAPPELLA, with direction by Peter Rutenberg. 7:30p.m., Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts. The scheduled program will examine a number of original source works in juxtaposition with some of their most famous "borrowed" uses in secular folk songs. VARIETIES OF LOVE IN THE RENAISSANCE A lecture focusing on poetry, sonnets in particular, by Dr. Wendy Furman-Adams, Whittier College professor of English. 7:30p.m., Arnold Hall. Thursday, October 19 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC OF THE 16TH CENTURY A concert featuring a variety of Renaissance woodwind instruments played by The Southern California Early Music Consort and led by Thomas Axworthy. 7:30p.m., Memorial Chapel.
