Professor Mainero was in private practice for 22 years. He is the co-author of
California Pre-Trial Civil Procedure Practice, Text, Cases and Materials, and
has given presentations on the Patriot Act, national security and anti-terrorism
for such groups as .the League of United Latin American Citizens, the
Constitutional Rights Foundation, and Whittier Law School’s On Common Ground
Program.
He holds a B.A. from Claremont Men’s College (now Claremont McKenna College), an
M.A. in political science from the University of New Mexico, and he received his
J.D. magna cum laude with the Order of the Coif, University of New Mexico.

Dr. Marks has published four books on Asian and Chinese history, and other parts of his
work have been published in the Journal of Asian Studies, Modern China, Late Imperial
China, Environmental History and Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars. He has
received grants from NEH, FIPSE and CAPHE for his work in higher education and for
Whittier College's Liberal Education Program, and currently has several works in progress
in the area of economic development and environmental change in South China, also
supported by prestigious grants from the Graves Foundation, the NEH and the Committee on
Scholarly Communication with China. Dr. Marks has traveled widely and frequently in China.
He earned B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
McBRIDE, MICHAEL

Dr. McBride specializes in Russia, the United Nations and political theory, and currently
serves as a consultant to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. He is advisor
to Whittier College's Model United Nations organization and is also the college's director
of foreign studies.
He received B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University.
McENANEY, LAURA

Dr. McEnaney has published the bookCivil Defense Begins at Home:
Militarization Meets Everyday life in the Fifties (Princeton University
Press, 2000). Her specialty areas include the postwar United States and the
history of American women. She is currently at work on the history of
demobilization from Wold War II as an urban story.
She received her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
MULLER, DAVID J.

From 1978 to 1983, Muller was principal bassoonist with the Mexico City Philharmonic. With
that orchestra, he was a featured soloist, made 25 recordings, and toured the Orient,
Europe and North America. Since returning to the United States in 1983, he has continued
his active performing career, performing regularly with major Southern California
orchestras, opera companies and ballet companies. He has participated in the San Luis
Obispo Mozart Festival, the Music From Bear Valley Festival, and the Fairbanks Summer Arts
Festival. He has also conducted student ensembles in the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean.
On the administrative front, he served as vice president for academic affairs
and dean of faculty at Whittier from 1998 to 2002.
Muller earned a B.M.E. from Temple University and an M.M. in performance from the
Cleveland Institute of Music.
