Dr. O'Brien has published and spoken on John Greenleaf Whittier and Jessamyn West, but has
published primarily on T. E. Lawrence, and he received the Library Association of Great
Britain's Besterman Medal in 1988 for his T. E. Lawrence bibliography. He has co-sponsored
a number of Lawrence symposia and has given presentations to the T. E. Lawrence Society in
England. Formerly Whittier College's cross-country coach, he was inducted into the
college's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988. Dr. O'Brien participated in a cross-country
bicycle trip in the summer of 1994. He rode again across the U.S. by bicycle in
2004.
He received a B.A. from Whittier College and M.S.L.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the
University of Southern California.

Dr. O'Connor-Gomez has taught Spanish language at all levels, including specialized
courses for business majors, health professionals and native speakers, as well as courses
focusing on cultural and literary trends of Spanish-speaking countries. She has
participated in institutes titled "Don Quixote: A Summer Institute for College and
University Professors" and "American Encounters: New Societies in a New
World," both of which were supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. In
1995, O'Connor-Gomez received Whittier College's Harry W. Nerhood Award for Teaching
Excellence. She was named faculty master at Hartley House in 2002.
Dr. O'Connor-Gomez received B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Catholic University.
