Brecht on Brecht Onstage at Whittier College
Brecht on Brecht: An Improvisation, by George Tabori, will be presented by the Whittier College Theatre Arts Department on stage at the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts, at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 19-22, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23.
On Oct. 30, 1947, German playwright Bertolt Brecht was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee. Brecht on Brecht is a collaged tribute to that historic event, featuring adaptations from his poems, plays, letters and music. Featuring the talents of many Whittier students, the show presents the life of one of modern drama’s most influential figures, giving the audience a glimpse at an enigmatic theatrical innovator.
The cast includes freshman Mike Robertson of Oakland; junior Stephanie Stevens of Norwalk, Calif.; junior Robin Kasahara of Whittier; freshman Andrea Pereira of San Francisco; freshman Erica Padgett and sophomore Vani Neelakantan of San Diego; and freshman Danielle Orner of Temecula, Calif.
Jennifer Holmes, assistant professor of theatre arts, is directing the production. Freshman Teia Rogers of Yucca Valley, Calif., is stage manager, and sophomore
Melissa Manoguerra of Fremont, Calif., and freshman Jenny Lee Smith of San Diego are assistant stage managers. Sophomore Linzi Juliano of Tempe, Ariz., is the production researcher, or dramaturge.
Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for students and senior citizens with proper ID. Tickets are available by calling the Shannon Center Box Office at (562) 907-4203.
Located 18 miles east of Los Angeles, Whittier College is an independent, four-year college offering traditional liberal arts majors and strong pre-professional programs taught in the context of the liberal arts. Whittier Law School, which is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools, is located on a separate campus in Costa Mesa.
