ROBERT F. ERBURU TO SPEAK AT 94TH COMMENCEMENT
Retired Chairman and CEO of Times Mirror Company Will Also Receive Honorary Degree
Robert F. Erburu, retired chairman and CEO of the Times Mirror Company, will deliver the Commencement address at Whittier College on May 22.
Erburu joined Times Mirror in 1961 as general counsel and secretary, and served as chairman from 1986 to 1996. He is currently a director of the Times Mirror Foundation. A Los Angeles resident, Erburu has served on the boards of the Ahmanson Foundation, the Getty Trust, the Parsons Foundation, the Fletcher Jones Foundation, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens.
During the Commencement ceremony, Erburu will receive an honorary degree from Whittier College. Other honorary degree recipients will be Douglas W. Ferguson, a long-time Whittier community leader and member of the Whittier College Board of Trustees; D. Antoinette Handy, a concert flutist, educator, author, and former music program director of the National Endowment for the Arts; and Tina Howe, Tony Award-nominated playwright.
Located 18 miles east of Los Angeles, Whittier College is a four-year, independent liberal arts college offering traditional liberal arts majors and strong pre-professional programs taught in the context of the liberal arts. Whittier Law School, which is accredited by the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools, is located on a separate campus in Costa Mesa.
