Whittier
Graduate Brings ReelGrace to the Shannon Center
Whittier College theatre
arts and communications graduate Ramey Arnold, now known as ReelGrace, brings
her eponymous band back home to the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing
Arts at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12. Tickets are $10 for the general public and
$8 for senior citizens and students with ID.
Born and raised in the
South, Arnold spent her childhood immersed in the performing arts. In the
Southern tradition, she sang in church choirs every Wednesday and twice on
Sunday. When she was not singing at church or in school choirs, she could be
found at the local performing arts center dancing, acting, and, of course,
singing. As a child, she studied and performed with such legends as the Tulsa
Ballet and gospel composer Jester Hairston.
Her family moved to
California, where she graduated from Beverly Hills High School, receiving the
first Performing Arts Scholarship and graduating as the top performing arts
student. She then studied music and theatre at Whittier, winning numerous
scholarships in theatre and vocal performance.
Since graduating from
Whittier in 1997, she has continued to pursue professional work in television,
film, and theatre while also working on her songwriting skills. In addition to
recording with various groups of musicians and working on independent projects
with others, she recently completed her first solo CD, Reelize, which
includes her own compositions and vocal performance. ReelGrace the band
reflects her own musical personality, but also includes the musical influences
of traditional rhythm and blues, soul, funk, and Afro-Latin flavor.
The band includes Arnold
on vocals, Roberto Angelucci on lead guitar, Juan Carlos Portillo on bass, Raul
Pineda on drums, Pasqualle Angelucci on percussion, Larry Wayte on keyboard and
Frank Fonta on saxophone.
Tickets are available by
calling the Shannon Center Box Office at (562) 907-4203.
