Whittier College News Release
For Immediate Release -July 28, 1997
First, second and third grade children from Whittier and surrounding communities have a unique opportunity to be considered for acceptance to a limited number of spaces at the Broadoaks Children's School of Whittier College for the 1997-98 school year.
These rare openings at the Whittier College demonstration school are due to an unusual number of families moving away from Southern California. Broadoaks is nationally and internationally recognized for its emphasis upon basic skills and critical thinking in all content areas, as well as higher order thinking skills such as problem solving and creative self expression. The program features a balance between teacher-initiated and student-initiated learning.
Broadoaks' individualized approach builds upon each student's strengths, interests, and learning styles. Teacher-student ratios are approximately 1:15. The instructional teams include highly qualified, credentialed teachers, most of whom hold Master's degrees in education.
Application date is one of several criteria used in the admission process, and early application is strongly advised. Guided tours of the school are available for interested parents. To register for a tour, or to request information and an application, contact Norma Stryker or Kathleen Pompey at (562) 907-4250.
