Broadoaks Slates Annual
Auction Fund-Raiser
The Broadoaks Children’s School at Whittier College will hold its
annual auction
fund-raiser— this year’s theme is Lights, Camera,
Action...Children are the Stars!—at
7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at the Whittier Hilton Hotel in Uptown
Whittier.
The public is invited, and the $10 admission includes hearty hors
d’oeuvres,
beverages and desserts. A no-host bar will also be available. The auction
features
unique gifts, toys, books, crafts, holiday decorations and imaginative
services. There is
also a raffle with a grand prize of $1,000.
Other
auction items include use of a condo in Hawaii, a winery stay and tour,
golf packages, museum trips, children’s gifts, books, toys, one-of-a-kind
handcrafted
items, amusement park packages, memorabilia, fine art, movie tickets and more.
Proceeds from the auction will help provide instructional materials for the
school’s
preschool through sixth-grade classes. “The auction celebrates all the
components of
our success,” said Judith T. Wagner, director of Broadoaks and professor of
education and child development, “including curriculum, teaching methods,
dedicated staff, active parent organization, and contributions to the study of
child development.”
Broadoaks is a private, non-profit demonstration school that includes
preschool,
day care, and elementary school with before- and after-school care. It is one
of the
oldest and most widely respected demonstration schools in the country. Its
purpose is
to provide programs for children and their families as a model for students in
education,
social work, psychology, medicine and other related fields. The children at
Broadoaks
reflect the socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural diversity of the Whittier
community.
The school also serves children with special needs, including blindness,
learning
disabilities, behavior disorders and those who are affected by prenatal exposure
to
drugs, high-risk family situations and other challenges to learning and
development.
