ADD: Amy Gilliom and Willie K have worked together to form their unique style of Hawaiian music, blending their voices to sing classic Hawaiian songs, as well as originals composed by the duo. William Awihilima "Uncle Willie K" Kahaiali'i has been called the "definitive 'Maui Boy.'" Gilliom is hailed as being the "pacesetter for the music journey into the 21st century," and she walked away with three of the prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in 1998. With a musical blend of contemporary and traditional Hawaiian music, she understands how to mix the musical traditions of old Hawaii with the freedom and musical expressions bestowed on the new generations.
Willie K, with an endless string of hits and sold out appearances throughout the Pacific Isles and the West Coast of the United States, is famous for his unique guitar technique, a three-and-one-half octave vocal range and his talent for writing and composing island classics such as "You Ku'uipo" and "Katchi Katchi Music Makawao."
As part of the Shannon Center's Aloha Series, this performance promises to be a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music with the best new duo in the Hawaiian scene.
