WHITTIER COLLEGE ALUMNI INVITED TO HOMECOMING '98
Opening officially on Friday with a men's water polo game against Caltech at the pool, Homecoming '98 includes the Purple & Gold Athletic Hall of Fame induction dinner at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Whittier Hilton. Five alumni have been named to the Athletic Hall of Fame this year. A welcome reception for all alumni will be held at the Hilton from 9-11 p.m.
Saturday's events begin with a 2.5-mile alumni run at 9 a.m. at Newman Stadium. Pre-game football festivities begin at 12:30 p.m. at the stadium, and the game against Redlands starts at 1 p.m.
After the game, there will be a family carnival at the baseball field, with games and rides for children and a beer and wine garden for adults. Homecoming dinner, featuring an Italian buffet and talks by President James L. Ash, Jr., and Margaret Donnellan Todd, president of the alumni association, begins at 5 p.m. under the carnival tent.
A 1985 Jaguar XJ6 once owned by coach George Allen of the Whittier Poets and the Super Bowl champion Washington Redskins, will be raffled during the dinner Saturday, with proceeds going toward athletics at Whittier, including the George Allen Fitness Center. Tickets and information are available by calling Patty Juarez, development secretary, at (562) 907-4942.
Sunday's activities include a farewell brunch beginning at 10 a.m. in the Campus Inn and Whittier College Sunday at First Friends Church in Uptown Whittier at 11 a.m., featuring music by the College Choir.
In addition to reunion gatherings--brunches, dinners and receptions--for some of the classes ending in "8" or "3," college societies, the African-American Alumni Association and the Social Work Alumni Association will hold receptions.
