El Beso de la Mujer Araña/Kiss of the Spider Woman to be performed in Spanish
at Whittier College

Teatro Sinergia presents El Beso de la Mujer Araña (The Kiss of the Spider Woman)
in Spanish on Wednesday, September 25, at 7 p.m. in the Ruth B. Shannon Center for
the Performing Arts at
Whittier College.

Based on the novel of the same name by Manuel Puig, El Beso de la Mujer Araña is
about the confrontation between a homosexual window trimmer and a political activist imprisoned in the same cell, which results in the personal transformation of each man.
The play is directed by Pedro J. Ortiz and recently finished a run at the Unity Arts
Center in downtown Los Angeles.

“To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that a play in Spanish has officially
been presented at the
Shannon Center,” said Doreen O’Connor-Gomez, associate
professor of Spanish and faculty master of Hartley House, one of the evening’s
sponsoring organizations.  “We hope to make this a tradition at Whittier College,
not just for our students, but for the greater Whittier and Los Angeles communities.”

Admission to the play is free, although seating is limited.  For reservations, please
call (562) 907- 4203.  Due to mature subject matter, this event may not be suited for
all audiences.  Patron discretion is advised.
