The College Choir draws its membership from all classes and majors. Freshmen and graduate students, music majors and physics majors, all share a love of choral music that is voiced in the choir. In its 70-year history, members of the College Choir have served as ambassadors for Whittier, representing the college╣s academic programs, cultural diversity, Quaker heritage and liberal arts ideals.
The choir has a rich tradition of performance tours, including two previous trips to the Pacific Northwest in 1987 and 1992. They have toured throughout the United States, and abroad to Mexico and Europe. The choir has also sung for three United States presidents.
Director Stephen Gothold holds a B.A. from Whittier, an M.A. from Occidental College and a D.M.A. from the University of Southern California. Long prominent in Southern California choral circles, Gothold has been a member of the Whittier College faculty since 1977 and has conducted church choirs for more than 30 years.
Located 18 miles east of Los Angeles, Whittier College is an independent, four-year college offering traditional liberal arts majors and strong pre-professional programs taught in the context of the liberal arts. Whittier Law School, which is accredited by the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools, is located on a separate campus in Costa Mesa.
