Quetzal in Concert

 

WHAT:                   Quetzal 

WHEN:                   7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6 

WHERE:                 The Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier College

                             13406 Philadelphia St., Whittier, Calif. 

COST:                    $10 for the general public.

ADD:                      Founded by guitarist/jarana/bajo sexto player Quetzal Flores, Quetzal brings a grassroots approach to fusing the folk styles of Mexico and Cuba along with elements of rock and blues.  Vocalist Martha Gonzalez is joined by her brother Gabriel, and the band also includes bass player Dante Pascuzzo and drummer Kiko Cornejo.  Edson Gianesi plays percussion and vibraphone.  The group’s latest CD is Worksongs, which features music in English, Spanish and Spanglish.

                                    While it is open to the public, the concert is also part of the annual conference of the Pacific Coast Council for Latin American Studies, which is being hosted by Whittier College Nov. 6-8.
