Most students at
Whittier feel that living in the residence halls not only provides
a "home away from home," but provides a challenging and fulfilling
environment that maximizes personal growth and encourages academic
success. The residential experience can provide opportunities for
students to learn to be independent, to make close friends, to
explore values systems and to experience the "give and take" of
living in a community atmosphere. Leadership opportunities
abound, and residents may choose to become involved in Hall
Councils or the campus-wide Inter-Residence Hall Association.
These groups plan social and educational activities, and make
decisions that influence the entire residential community.
Area Coordinators
and Resident Advisors work directly with students living in the
residence halls. They acquaint residents with the resources of
the College, identify concerns and needs, and advising students on
ways to make the living experience in the halls a positive one.
