January Term (JanTerm) is an optional three-week term between fall and spring semesters that gives Whittier students the flexibility and freedom to enroll in unique courses not typically offered during the traditional semester terms.
Whether you're looking to complete an internship or practicum in a short amount of time, take that psychology course you've always wanted to take, or learn about the connections between rock 'n' roll and film, JanTerm has something for everyone.
Whittier also packs JanTerm with exciting and enriching faculty-led travel courses all over the world. And, the best part is they’re only about two weeks long—just enough time to immerse yourself in a culturally-rich educational experience without the expense or disruption of a traditional semester-long study abroad program. Past JanTerm travel courses have explored issues of sustainability in Hawaii and China, global economics in London, baseball culture (yes, baseball!) in Puerto Rico, and environmental science in South Africa.
JanTerm is also a great way to explore Los Angeles and Southern California while earning units towards your degree. In the past, students have visited the region's professional sports teams as part of a sports marketing course. Others have studied Los Angeles' rich diversity through cuisine from an anthropological perspective.
