Whittier College operations during Safer at Home period
November 2019 will mark 100 years since the birth of our departed friend and mentor. The Martin Ortiz 100 Campaign celebrates him by aiming to raise $100,000 to continue his transformative work with Latino students and families.
A matching challenge!! Any gift before June 30, 2019 will be matched dollar for dollar by a group of our most committed and generous donors who drew support from El Jefe's mentorship. Your gift today will be doubled.
Established in 1996 with gifts from Whittier alumni, friends, and foundations honoring Martin Ortiz '48, the scholarship provides educational opportunities for three high-achieving Latino students each year, and continues El Jefe's legacy in perpetuity.
The Martin Ortiz Fellowship would provide select students with an award to do a summer internship or research under the guidance of a Whittier College faculty member. Ortiz Fellows will be able to take on opportunities that would be otherwise inaccessible due to financial concerns and obligations. The fellowship experience will also enhance the student's career and graduate school preparedness.
The Programs are a continuation of the work Mr. Ortiz did with Latino students and their families. Your support will allow the Ortiz Programs to provide academic and career resources, primarily to first-generation college Latino students, and will enable the Programs to serve as liaison between Latino students, parents, alumni, community organizations, and the Whittier College family.
