The second cohort of the Whittier College Healthcare Leadership Program (WCHL) celebrated the completion of the program with presentations and a certificate ceremony in the Science & Learning Center. The program is a partnership between Whittier, PIH Health, and CareMore. Participants included employees from both health organizations.
The WCHL courses are led by Whittier College professors who use the liberal arts to teach relevant writing, critical thinking, cross-cultural management, and leadership skills. This approach encourages participants to create solutions and change the culture of the healthcare system.
“This program helped emphasize what it means to be a good leader,” said participant Cynthia Lara, case management project administrator at CareMore. “It has taught me how to conduct relevant research, propose and implement initiatives, and better manage and oversee those initiatives properly once initiated. The program has also shed light on health disparities across multiple fields.”
During the ceremony, participants were presented their projects to their classmates, professors, as well as President and CEO of PIH Jim West and President and CEO of CareMore Sachin H. Jain. The presentations were an opportunity for participants to provide insight into what they learned and share new initiatives that can be implemented in their workplace.
Led by Professor of Chemistry Devin Limoto and Associate Professor of Business Administration Jeff Decker, WCHL is in its second year, with the third cohort already in session. Next year’s cohort welcomes a new partner, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
